Bangladesh sees remittances of 9 bln USD during July-November

DHAKA, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) — Remittances from Bangladeshi people living and working overseas totaled nearly 9 billion U.S. dollars in the July-November period of the current fiscal year 2023-24 through next June, a central bank official said Monday.

Quoting provisional Bangladesh Bank (BB) data, the official who asked not to be named told Xinhua that “millions of non-resident Bangladeshis remitted home 8,814.55 million dollars from July to November, compared to 8,793.56 million dollars a year earlier.”

The BB official said the figure was recorded at 1,930.04 million dollars in November alone, about 21 percent higher than a year earlier.

The inflow of remittances from some 10 million Bangladeshis living and working in over 100 countries and regions, in the last 2022-23 financial year amounted to 21.61 billion dollars.

The remittances mainly came from Middle East countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, among others.
