Agriculture and Food Authority Working With Farmers to ensure Exports Meet International Standards

NYERI, Kenya, Dec 15 – The Agriculture and Food Authority has embarked on an ambitious technology transfer to farmers in the county in its bid to ensure agricultural products conform with international standards.
Speaking during a farmers field day at Kiunyu village in Nyeri county, the Authority acting director-general Antony Mureithi said that they are reaching out to farmers especially those engaged in agricultural produce to ensure that the country exports the right goods in the international market.
“We as an authority are reaching out to our farmers to ensure that they do the right farming, this will ensure that what our farmers export is of right quantity and quality. We believe that they will earn more, ” said Mureithi.
Mureithi who was flanked by the Pakistan High Commissioner to Kenya Saqlain Syedah said that the move will ensure farmers in the county get premium prices for their products and in addition escape trade restrictions in the international arena.
The Ambassador said that so far, her county which imports many of its agricultural products is working with the authority to ensure what goes in their market is of the right standards.
“As a nation, we want to partner with farmers who will sell directly to our market. Kenya and Pakistan have a lot in common and we can walk towards our prosperity,” said the envoy.
She said that as a developing country just like Kenya, Pakistan can learn for our county and ensure that the trade balance between the two nations is maintained.
