EU grants Nigeria 580 mln euros

ABUJA, May 6 – The European Union is to grant Nigeria 580 million euros from this year, the European Commission\’s acting delegation head in the country, Denis Thieulin, announced Tuesday.

"The EC will make available to Nigeria 580 million euros [775.7 million dollars] under the 10th European Development Fund (EDF)," Thieulin told reporters in Abuja.

The fund will be disbursed between 2009 and 2013.

The grant aims to service identified key areas such as peace and security, government and human rights, trade, regional integration and development issues including energy, environmental sustainance and climate change.
