NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 1 – Lecturers and workers in public universities across the country are set to go on strike on Wednesday over failure by the government to implement the 2014/2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) Secretary-General Constantine Wesonga told Capital FM News that the strike – which will be the third this year – will be launched at the University of Nairobi grounds.
Implementation of the CBA could not be sustained due to lack of funds by various employers and the university senates.
The CBA was signed in March this year ending a 54-day strike that began on January 19 and the government released Sh10 billion for the payment of arrears in June but reverted to the old salaries after the funds ran out.
