, NAIROBI, Kenya, May 10 – The Director of Public Prosecutions has recalled a criminal file involving former University of Nairobi SONU aspirant Mike Jacobs for further directions.
Jacobs who was arrested Monday, has since been released on a free bond when he appeared before Milimani court magistrate Charity Oluoch at the DPP’s request.
He was due to face arson and destruction of property charges in relation to the recent student’s unrest at the institution but the plea was differed following the new development.
Jacobs spent the night at the Central Police station.
He is among 33 UoN students who were expelled for leading violent demonstrations last month that led to the closure of the institution after a group of students disputed the controversial election of Babu Owino as chair of SONU.
Jacobs spent the night at the Central Police station where he was detained on accusations of torching SONU offices during last month’s protests over the election results which favoured Owino.
He was expelled from the university last month after leading hundreds of students in violent protests that led to the closure of the campus for more than two weeks.
The UoN senate had also expelled 33 students over violent protests against the disputed SONU elections.
The senate further suspended 25 students for a period of 2-3 years, issued warnings to 143 and pardoned 17.
