NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 20 – Kenya is seeking to grow its sports economy through a new partnership between Tennis Kenya and the French Tennis Federation (FFT).
The collaboration is designed to open up international opportunities for players, coaches, officials and clubs, while strengthening the country’s sports ecosystem through skills transfer and exposure.
The programme, set to roll out in 2026, will cover player development, infrastructure, officiating, coach training and leadership exchanges.
It is also expected to unlock economic benefits through sports diplomacy, sponsorships, foreign training partnerships and the potential to host international tournaments.
As part of the initiative, Kenya’s top Under-16 players, including Jeff Okuku and Aum Chandarana, will train and compete at Istres Tennis Club.
The partnership is backed by corporate sponsors, including 254 Racquet Club and PetStore Kenya.
“Sports in many ways is like business, you just don’t appear and perform like this, it takes years of dedication, practice, coaching and efforts. Aum and Jeff are a representation of what we have accomplished and we are very happy to be associated with you. Why are we supporting this endeavour as PetStore Kenya? I’m a big believer that sports bring people together, it inspires the youth, it makes a country stronger, it makes a country a stronger community and that is the drive and reason to why we are doing this,” said PetStore Kenya director Taha Mohamedali.
