Tanzania wins top international tourism awards

DAR ES SALAAM, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) — Tanzania on Monday received three international tourism awards, highlighting the country’s rising profile as a leading destination for nature-based tourism.

A statement from the Directorate of Presidential Communications said the awards were presented by Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism Ashatu Kijaji at a ceremony held at the Zanzibar Tunguu State House. Among them was the title of World’s Leading Safari Destination 2025.

The statement said Tanzania won the award at the World Travel Awards Grand Finals 2025 held on Dec. 6 in Bahrain, surpassing destinations including Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, and South Africa.

Serengeti National Park was named World’s Leading National Park 2025, ahead of renowned sites such as South Africa’s Kruger National Park and the United States’ Yellowstone National Park.

Earlier in June, Tanzania was recognized as Africa’s Leading Destination 2025 at the Africa and Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony held in Dar es Salaam.

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan praised stakeholders in the tourism and conservation sectors, saying the awards reflect Tanzania’s rich natural resources and growing international appeal.

Tanzania’s Zanzibar added to the accolades by being named Africa’s Best Corporate Retreat Destination 2025, underscoring the country’s expanding role in both leisure and business tourism.

According to official data from the Bank of Tanzania, tourist arrivals in the country in 2025 rose by 9.02 percent to 2.09 million, while tourism revenues reached a record 4.2 billion U.S. dollars.
