NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 19 – Kenya is positioning itself to deepen trade, investment, and tourism links with Angola following the launch of direct flights between Nairobi and Luanda by TAAG Angola Airlines in September 2025.
The development was spotlighted during celebrations of Angola’s 50th anniversary of National Independence, highlighting Nairobi’s strategic push into Southern Africa.
“The recent launch of direct flights by TAAG Angola Airlines between Luanda and Nairobi is a milestone in our aspiration to enhance connectivity and people-to-people relations,” said Ambassador Josphat Maikara, Kenya’s Director-General for Political and Diplomatic Affairs.
“This development opens new avenues for enhanced trade and investments as well as increased tourism between our two economies.”
Ambassador Maikara also noted that Kenya looks forward to Kenya Airways resuming operations to Luanda, which will complement progress made and deepen bilateral economic relations.
“Kenya Airways resuming flights to Luanda will further strengthen our connectivity and economic engagement with Angola.”
Angola’s Ambassador to Kenya, Mário de Azevedo Constantino, underscored Angola’s post-conflict reconstruction and favorable business environment as a factor Kenya can bank on.
“With the achievement of peace, the country laid the foundations for the reconstruction of the nation, highlighting the favorable business environment, security, and the strategic importance of the Lobito Corridor for boosting the potential for economic diversification,” he said.
Trade between the two nations remains modest but shows growth potential.
Kenya imported goods worth about Sh 1.45 billion from Angola in 2023, while Angola’s exports to Kenya were just Sh 8.3 million the same year.
Kenya’s exports to Angola in 2024 stood at Sh 171 million, signaling early but promising trade engagement.
With air connectivity improving and both countries emphasizing investment opportunities, Nairobi is betting on Angola as a gateway for increased economic collaboration in Southern Africa.
