NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 30 – Airtel Africa has begun construction of a new 44MW Nxtra Data Centre at Tatu City, targeting enterprises, government agencies, and hyperscalers.
The facility will host next-generation servers and GPU-ready racks, feature 99.999 percent uptime, multiple redundant fiber paths, and advanced security systems.
ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo said the project fits within the government’s digital agenda to expand broadband and strengthen Kenya’s digital economy.
The move comes amid rising demand for data centers in Kenya, driven by internet penetration, cloud adoption, and IoT services.
Recent big-ticket investments in the sector include Microsoft’s $1 billion deal with G42 to build a green data center and Schneider Electric’s partnership with iXAfrica Data Centres to launch East Africa’s first hyper cloud facility.
Airtel Kenya Managing Director Ashish Malhotra said the new site is expected to attract global tech firms, lower digital service costs, and support AI and cloud adoption.
