NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 28 – Ethiopian electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Tad Motors SEZ Ltd has begun local assembly of its EV models in Kenya.
The company unveiled its first Kenya-assembled electric vehicles at an event in Nairobi attended by government officials, diplomats, and industry partners.
Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Dr Abraham Korir Sing’Oei said the move aligns with Kenya’s push to attract technology-driven investment and expand sustainable industries.
Regional officials, including representatives from South Sudan, also called for deeper cross-border cooperation in clean mobility.
UNEP Programme Officer for Sustainable Mobility Alexander Koerner noted that the shift to EVs is becoming essential for climate action and said the entry of new assemblers could support wider adoption across the region.
Tad Motors CEO Eng. Tadesse Tessema said the local assembly line is part of the company’s plan to scale production and supply affordable EV options tailored to African markets.
The firm introduced five models – Dhahabu, Taji, Amani, Fahari and Makena – ranging from compact urban cars to premium and utility vehicles.
The launch positions Kenya as a potential assembly and distribution hub for the company’s regional expansion, with Tad Motors targeting partnerships and further investment in green mobility technologies.
