NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 14 – A Nairobi-based hospital is scheduled to have its medical equipment and vehicles auctioned due to unpaid rent, as detailed in a notice from Jogoo Road Motors Auction Yard.
The auction is slated for Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 10:30 AM, at the Jogoo Road Motors Auction Yard, located opposite Church Army School.
The distress for rent case involves landlord versus Abdirnasir Yusuf Mohamed and Dr. Yusuf Mahat Rashid.
Items listed for auction include two Toyota Hiace ambulances (KDE 2038 and KDC 673G), an ASKA power generator, a CT scan machine (UCT 520 Gantry), an X-ray machine, 10 ICU beds, 10 hospital beds, assorted medical equipment, four office tables, assorted wooden frames and boards, and assorted pharmaceutical drugs.
Prospective buyers are required to make cash payments at the fall of the hammer.
This incident highlights a growing trend of healthcare facilities in Kenya facing financial challenges leading to asset auctions.
In September 2024, Seventh Avenue Hospital in Thika experienced a similar situation where auctioneers, enforcing a court order over unpaid rent, forcibly removed patients and seized equipment worth millions.
Witnesses described distressing scenes as patients were abruptly displaced, and essential medical equipment was confiscated, severely disrupting hospital operations.
