In its regular mid-month announcement, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) hiked the price of super petrol by Sh0.76 in Nairobi but reduced prices for diesel by Sh1.69 and kerosene by Sh1.07.
In Nairobi, a litre of super petrol will retail at Sh116.20 while diesel and kerosene will sell at Sh102.98 and Sh82.05 respectively.
The commission attributed the decrease of diesel prices to the average landed cost of imported diesel that decreased by 2.06 percent as the average landed cost of imported super petrol increased by 1.67 percent.
“The average landed cost of imported kerosene decreased by 1.92 percent from $1010.11 per ton in June 2014 to US$990.75 per ton in July2014. Over the same period, the average landed cost of imported super petrol increased by 1.67 percent to US$1059.02 per ton in June 2014 to US$ 1,076.74 per ton in July 2014,” the ERC said in a statement.
Mean monthly US dollar to Kenya shilling exchange rate dropped by 0.13 percent from Sh87.68 per US$ in June 2014 to Sh87.79 per US$ in July 2014.
In Mombasa a litre of super petrol will retail at Sh113.25 while diesel and kerosene will retail at Sh99.64 and Sh80.26 respectively. In Nakuru, a litre of super petrol will retail at Sh117.23, while diesel and kerosene will be sold at Sh103.84 and Sh83.82 respectively.
“The commission would wish to remind all petroleum marketing companies and dealers that it is an offense to sell petroleum products above the maximum prices published by the commission,” the ERC said.
