BMW denies plan for Slovak car plant

Bratislava, May 2 – German carmaker BMW denied on Wednesday a report by Slovakia’s leading Hospodarske Noviny business daily that it was considering building an assembly plant in Slovakia.

A BMW spokesman on Wednesday denied any plans to build a plant in Slovakia. Contacted by AFP Wednesday, the Slovak economy ministry declined to comment on any aspect of the reported investment.

According to Hospodarske Nowiny, the Germany carmaker was looking at either Slovakia or Mexico as location for the plant which is to make electric cars.

According to the daily, the company asked the Slovak government for a 500-million euro investment subsidy.
