NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 11 – Homa Bay County has emerged as the top-performing devolved unit in infrastructure, healthcare, and economic growth, according to the latest Infotrak County Performance Index.

The ranking, which assesses counties based on governance, service delivery, and socio-economic progress, places Homa Bay ahead of Murang’a and Kirinyaga in key performance indicators.

The Infotrak Roads and Transport Performance Index ranks Homa Bay at 52%, making it the best-performing county in infrastructure development.

Murang’a follows closely at 51%, while Kirinyaga takes third place at 48%.

“County Track report ranks Homa Bay (53%) and Murang’a (52%) as the best-performing counties in healthcare delivery, while Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Kisii, and Kisumu follow at 46%,”read the port by Infotrak in part.

However, counties such as Baringo, Nyandarua, and Bomet lag behind, scoring 40%, highlighting disparities in infrastructure development across the country.

With a national average of 42%, the report raises concerns about whether county governments are prioritizing road and public transport improvements as key economic enablers.

Likewise, Homa Bay takes the lead in healthcare delivery, scoring 53%, followed by Murang’a at 52%.

Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Kisii, and Kisumu counties tie at 46%, while Bomet, Vihiga, Kakamega, and Busia rank lowest with a 41% score.

The national mean stands at 41.6%, suggesting a need for enhanced investment in healthcare systems to bridge regional disparities and improve service delivery.

On education, Murang’a emerges as the best county in education at 54%, with Homa Bay securing second place at 53%.

Trans Nzoia (51%) and Elgeyo Marakwet (50%) also perform well, while counties like Makueni, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, and Uasin Gishu score just below at 49%.

The ranking underscores the role of county governments in supporting education as a catalyst for economic progress.
