Kenya positions itself as Africa’s AI hub ahead of GITEX 2026

NAIROBI, Kenya, April 16 – Kenya is strengthening its position as a leading artificial intelligence (AI) hub in Africa, backed by rising adoption among businesses and growing global attention ahead of the upcoming GITEX AI Kenya 2026.

A majority of Kenyan firms are increasingly adopting AI tools to boost productivity, reinforcing the country’s standing as a key digital innovation centre on the continent.

According to a report by Zoho titled “The AI Privacy Equation: Youthful Innovation Meets Privacy Leadership in Kenya,” the country recorded the highest AI adoption rate among surveyed African markets.

The study, conducted by Arion Research, found that over 35 percent of Kenyan organisations have already achieved advanced or widespread AI implementation.

The report shows that businesses are prioritising AI investment in customer service (54.8 percent) and software development (51.2 percent), while also building skills in data analysis (63.1 percent) and prompt engineering (44.2 percent).

Zoho noted that Kenya is emerging as a model for “youth-driven, privacy-conscious AI adoption,” offering lessons for other emerging markets balancing innovation with data protection.

The momentum is further supported by the government’s Kenya National AI Strategy 2025–2030, which outlines a roadmap for leveraging AI to drive socio-economic development.

Kenya is set to host a major global AI gathering in May, with GITEX Kenya and AI Everything Kenya bringing together technology leaders, policymakers, and investors.

The three-day event will run from May 19 to 21, starting with the Inclusive AI Summit at the Sarit Expo Centre and continuing with the main expo and conference at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre.

Organisers expect more than 500 global enterprises and over 10,000 tech executives to attend, with discussions spanning AI, cybersecurity, fintech, and agritech.

A report by Ernst & Young indicates that Kenya’s evolving regulatory framework and investment environment are creating opportunities for AI growth, particularly in sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education, security, and financial services.

AI is projected to contribute up to $2.4 billion to Kenya’s GDP by 2030, with 68 percent of firms expected to fully adopt the technology by the end of 2026.

GITEX’s expansion into Kenya signals growing global confidence in the country’s role as a regional technology hub and a rising force in Africa’s digital economy.
