Kenyans boost demand for smartphones and home appliances during Jumia Tech Week

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 3 – Consumer shopping trends during Jumia Tech Week show that Kenyans are prioritising smartphones, smart TVs, refrigerators and washing machines as demand for practical and connected technology continues to grow.

Data from Jumia indicates that the Samsung Galaxy A06 and Xiaomi Redmi 15C were among the top-selling smartphones. In the television category, the Vitron 43-inch Smart Android TV and the Vision Plus 50-inch QLED 4K TV recorded strong sales.

For home appliances, the Vision Plus 10KG Twin Tub Washing Machine and the Ramtons 213-litre fridge emerged as customer favourites, reflecting increased household investment in efficiency and convenience.

Jumia has officially launched its Tech Week campaign running from March 2 to 15 under the theme “Cheza smart, ishi smart.” The initiative aims to make essential technology more affordable and accessible to consumers.

The campaign features twice-daily flash sales, brand days with partners including Oraimo, Roch, VisionPlus+ and Itel, as well as weekend discounts of up to 15 percent at checkout. Selected brands such as Ramtons are also offering free delivery.

Jumia Kenya Managing Director Vinod Goel said the campaign reflects the growing importance of technology in everyday life.

“Technology is no longer a luxury; it is a necessity. Jumia Tech Week is about ensuring that Kenyans can access the gadgets that support their daily lives — whether it’s a smartphone for work, a smart TV for learning and entertainment, or appliances that make homes more efficient,” he said.

The company said the campaign seeks to democratise access to digital tools by lowering cost barriers while responding to rising demand for connectivity, entertainment and home improvement solutions across Kenya.
