DEC 8 – The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has been recognised among Kenya’s best-performing public institutions after securing four national awards for accountability and financial governance.
At the 2025 Financial Reporting (FiRe) Awards, the Ministry was named Overall Winner in the Public Sector Category and the top performer among Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), reflecting its compliance with financial reporting standards and transparency requirements.
The Office of the Head of Public Service also presented the Ministry with two additional awards — the Unmodified Audit Opinion Award and the Leadership in Driving the Public Service Transformation Agenda. The honours highlight the Ministry’s clean audit record and involvement in major national and county programmes.
The awards were presented to Defence Cabinet Secretary Hon. Soipan Tuya at a ceremony at Defence Headquarters by Defence Principal Secretary Dr. Patrick Mariru, attended by senior officials and department heads.
CS Tuya said the recognition reflects the Ministry’s commitment to responsible resource management.
“These awards affirm the Ministry of Defence’s deep commitment to excellence, integrity and responsible stewardship of public resources,” she said. “Our civilian and uniformed teams continue to demonstrate what it means to serve with dedication and uphold the highest standards of public service.”
PS Mariru said the performance was the result of coordinated effort across all departments.
“This is a Ministry-wide achievement,” he noted. “We have been able to navigate complex, public-service-wide issues while steering key Government projects and programmes. I congratulate the entire MoD team for consistently maintaining systems that meet the highest national standards.”
The awards reinforce the Ministry’s standing as one of the most compliant and well-governed institutions in the public sector.
