NAIROBI, Kenya, July 24 – Former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto has refuted allegations that he failed to pay a complainant, Nicholas Teeka, Sh5 million for 50 cattle supplied to Ruto’s ranch in 2022.
In a statement, Ruto asserted that he paid for all the animals supplied to his farm as agreed hence the allegations are not true, adding that he has not been served by the letter.
”For the record, all the live animals supplied to my farm by the claimant were paid as per the negotiated and agreed prices. The animals which were being rescued in Kajiado from a severe drought were selling between Sh10, 000 and sh15, 000 and none sold for Sh100, 000 as claimed by the Claimant,” he said.
Teeka had through his lawyers Kalwa Advocates in a letter dated July 23, demanded that Ruto settle the outstanding amount within one week, threatening legal action if the payment is not made.
“By this letter, our client demands that you settle the said outstanding debt in the next 7 days from the date of this letter, failure to which our client shall take decisive legal action against you, all at your cost and peril thereto,” read the letter in part.
The dispute centers on a transaction in 2022 in which Ruto allegedly received the heads of cattle from Teeka for a beef rearing project.
The cattle, according to the letter by Teeka were sold to Farmers Choice Limited at a profit, with an agreement that each head of cattle was valued at Sh100, 000, totaling Sh5 million.
Payment was to be made upon delivery or no later than 30 days thereafter.
He claimed that despite assurances from Ruto following his appointment as a commissioner representing the public in the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), no payment has been made.
