Minet donates Sh500,000 to support 2019 KECOSO games

NAIROBI, Kenya Jul 11 – Insurance brokerage firm, Minet Kenya has donated Ksh 500,000 to the Kenya Communications Sports Organization (KECOSO) to support the organization’s 2019 games.

Speaking at an event to have hand over the cheque to KECOSO secretariat, Minet Kenya Chief Executive Officer Sammy Muthui said the company was keen on supporting sports, one of the key pillars its corporate social responsibility programme, besides education and health.

“While we conduct our business, we are always looking into ways of being purposeful to the communities that we serve and by supporting sports we believe we are creating positive impacts in the loves of those involved. That’s why we are happy to support this year’s KECOSO games because know the value of sports in our society and it gels well with our wellness programme which aims to address mental, physical, emotional, financial, and spiritual wellness- all these can easily be achieved through active participation in sports,” Muthui said.

“We also recognize the important role played by the civil service in delivery of government services and we commend KECOSO secretariat for coming up with such an event that builds unity and cohesion among various ministries,” Muthui added.

Receiving the donation, KECOSO Secretary General Omole Asiko thanked Minet adding that the sponsorship was a great boost to this year’s games.

“We are most grateful for this donation from Minet Kenya. There are greater synergies between the two organizations with a common goal towards wellness. We promise that the money will be put into good use to ensure that this year’s tournament is a great success,” Asiko said.

Kisii County will host the 40th edition of the Games, which have attracted 12 teams from the communications, transport and infrastructure ministries alongside parastatals that will take part in various sporting disciplines including; basketball, football, netball, volleyball, snooker, scrabble, pool, table tennis and athletics.

Established in 1978, KECOSO is a sports organization that brings together key public communications entities under the umbrella of the Ministries of Transport & Infrastructure, Information Communications & Technology, and Sports, Culture & the Arts.

The key objectives of the games include promoting sports activities within the member organizations; promoting closer relationship and business interaction amongst the member organizations, bringing sports closer to the people around the country and creating awareness on the services and products rendered by the member organizations; and promoting peaceful co-existence and national unity through sports.
