MASSACHUSETTS, US, Sep 28 – Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi has urged Kenyans in the diaspora to be pro-active in Kenya’s electoral process and participate in the election of credible leaders.

Speaking in the city of Springfield in Massachusetts, Mudavadi said Kenyans had gambled with leadership for so long and it is high time they chose leaders rationally and not emotionally.

“I will give you a voice in my government,” he promised the gathering, during his tour in the US that is aimed at popularising his 2022 presidential bid.

Some of the issues Kenyans who attended the meeting raised include the need to expand consular services in the US as many travel long distances to get the services.

They also want proper management of public resources back home and eradication of corruption.

Mudavadi promised to implement policies that will entrench accountability and good governance, if elected, in order to improve on the quality of life in Kenya.

He urged President Uhuru Kenyatta not to relent on the war against corruption that is spearheaded by the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) with DPP Noordin Haji and DCI George Kinoti taking the lead in recent months in cracking major cases.

“You can influence Kenyans back home not only through monetary support and skills transfer, but by helping them embrace values and make the right choices during elections,” he said.

Asked about his stand on the expected referendum under the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), Mudavadi said, “Kenyans should only embrace change that is for the collective good of the nation and not change that is about individuals and power-sharing.”

Earlier on Friday, Mudavadi paid a courtesy call on the Mayor of the City of Springfield, Domenic Sarno before heading to New Jersey to address a Town Hall meeting.
