NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 21 – Fifty-two Al Shabaab terrorists were Friday morning killed during a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) operation in Badhaadhe region of lower Juba, Somalia.
A statement from the KDF headquarters in Nairobi stated that several other terrorists escaped with injuries during the 1am operation that occurred when the soldiers stormed the terrorists’ camp about nine kilometers North of Sarira.
“The intelligence-led operation was executed after surveillance assets sighted Al Shabaab terrorist concentration in the location. Ground troops supported by mortar and artillery fire were employed to neutralise the camp thereafter,” it stated.
Colonel Joseph Owuoth of the KDF’s Public Affairs Unit stated that several weapons -including eight guns and three assorted Improvised Explosive Devices were recovered.
“From the operation, the initial assessment indicates that approximately fifty two terrorists were killed while others fled with injuries,” he said.
“The following items were additionally captured: seven AK 47 rifles, one PKM gun, two phones, one hundred and four rounds of ammunition, three, Improvised Explosive Devices , assorted IED making material and foodstuffs.”
The KDF assured Kenyans that the operations against the Al Shabaab will continue until all militants are eliminated and there is peace in the country.
