Kabogo seeks more time in Waititu’s Sh50mn payment demand

Kabogo told Deputy Registrar Sharon Mwayuli to give him at least 14 days to respond to the bill of cost filed by Waititu saying he was going to oppose it/FILE

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 23 – Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has asked the High Court to give him time to respond to a suit that seeks to order him pay his political rival Ferdinand Waititu a whooping Sh50 million as legal fees for a petition he filed against him.

Kabogo told Deputy Registrar Sharon Mwayuli to give him at least 14 days to respond to the bill of cost filed by Waititu saying he was going to oppose it.

The money Waititu is seeking arises from a suit that Kabogo filed last year questioning the Panjab University degree the Kabete MP holds.

He wants Kabogo to offset the Sh50,960,422 he accrued from March last year when the case was filed to date.

The fake degree claims by Kabogo were dismissed in December last year by Justice Joseph Onguto who said the court lacked jurisdiction to meddle in the dispute.

“We are yet to respond to the applicant’s claim and we are requesting for at least 14 days,” Kabogo’s lawyer Issa Mansour told the Deputy Registrar.

Mwayuli consequently directed Kabogo to respond to the application and the matter be heard inter-parties on March 23.
