NAIROBI, Kenya, July 22 – Two terror suspects were on Thursday night shot dead within Junda area of Kisauni in Mombasa County and weapons recovered.
The two were killed after anti-terror police raided their house, where they were allegedly plotting an attack in the seaside city.
Among the weapons recovered include three hand grenades, 17 rounds of ammunition and two detonators.
One suspect however managed to escape according to Kisauni Police Chief Walter Abondo, who said “a pursuit has been launched in a bid to arrest him.”
He is believed to be “armed and dangerous.”
According to police, the two felled men were among most wanted terror suspect behind past terrorist attacks in Mombasa.
Detectives suspect the two were part of the gang that early this year escaped from a house in Majengo area in January 5, where weapons were also seized.
An M-4 rifle that had been snatched from a Navy officer, who was slashed to death during a February 2014 raid at Nyali Barracks by the terror suspects aligned to Mombasa Republican Council (MRC), was recovered.
Security has been heightened across all parts of the country since the threat of terror remains real.
