NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 28 – Kenya has strengthened its influence in global ICT governance after being elected Vice Chair of the International Telecommunication Union’s Telecommunication Development Advisory Group (TDAG) at the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC) 2025 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Fred Ong’aro, Deputy Director for Fund Strategy Coordination at the Communications Authority of Kenya, will represent Africa on the advisory body, which guides digital development priorities within the ITU-D sector.
The position bolsters Kenya’s visibility in global digital policy-making, gives the country stronger input in shaping ICT development programmes, and provides access to emerging best practices. It is the second time Kenya has secured the TDAG vice-chairmanship.
WTDC brings together governments, regulators, and industry leaders every four years to set international strategies for connectivity expansion, digital inclusion, capacity building, and ICT innovation—particularly for developing economies.
Information, Communications and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo and Broadcasting and Telecommunications Principal Secretary Stephen Isaboke led Kenya’s delegation, holding bilateral meetings focused on partnerships to deepen regional connectivity and accelerate digital transformation.
