Old Mutual unveils Lady Anchor to close gender gap in financial services

NAIROBI, Kenya, August 12 – Old Mutual has launched Lady Anchor, a proposition designed to bridge the gender gap in financial protection and address the everyday financial realities faced by Kenyan women.

The package bundles health, life, and general insurance solutions into a customisable offering, with the option to incorporate investments. It is paired with financial education tools and wellness resources tailored to women’s unique needs and responsibilities.

Speaking at the launch, Old Mutual Group CEO Arthur Oginga described Lady Anchor as a strategic intervention to provide women with accessible, relevant, and affordable financial services.

“The launch of Lady Anchor is a strategic commitment to close the gender protection gap, support the ambitions of women at every stage of life, and recognise that true progress — whether social, economic, or institutional — cannot be achieved unless women are fully included, protected, and empowered,” said Oginga.

According to the 2024 Old Mutual Financial Services Monitor report, working women face rising financial pressures and health concerns, with 46 percent experiencing high financial stress and 51 percent saying it negatively impacts their health.

In addition, 52 percent belong to the “sandwich generation,” supporting both children and adult dependents, adding to their financial strain.

Lady Anchor primarily targets women aged 25 to 65 but extends coverage to principal members and spouses aged 18 to 79, as well as domestic workers.

The package includes HPV and travel vaccines, hormonal replacement therapy, and comprehensive health benefits. Motor insurance comes with value-added emergency rescue services.

“Lady Anchor is not just about insurance, it is about meeting women where they are — as caregivers, professionals, entrepreneurs, and protectors,” said Carol Misiko, Old Mutual’s Sustainability, Risk and Compliance Executive.

The solution is offered as a flexible bundle, allowing women to start with health or motor insurance and add options such as critical illness cover, domestic worker protection, home insurance, travel protection, and a Money Market Fund investment.

Old Mutual plans to scale Lady Anchor through targeted outreach to women-led organisations, SACCOs, and cooperatives while embedding gender equity into its service delivery and innovation strategies.
