Indian PM cut down on vehicles to save fuel

The development assumed significance in the aftermath of his recent calls to avoid unnecessary travel in a bid to save fuel in the wake of the Middle East crisis, which has led to a surge in energy prices.

Indian PM NEW DELHI, May 13 (Xinhua) — Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed his office to halve the number of vehicles in his convoy in order to save fuel, and also requisitioned for replacing them with electric vehicles, local media reported Wednesday.

The development assumed significance in the aftermath of his recent calls to avoid unnecessary travel in a bid to save fuel in the wake of the Middle East crisis, which has led to a surge in energy prices.

Taking a cue from Modi’s measure, some federal government and local officials have also reduced the number of vehicles in their respective convoys to half.
