S. Korea enacts comprehensive law on AI safe use

The Basic Act on the Development of Artificial Intelligence and the Establishment of a Foundation for Trustworthiness, also known as the AI Basic Act, officially took effect on Thursday, according to the Ministry of Science and ICT.

The legislation establishes comprehensive guidelines for the development and use of AI models, focusing on curbing misinformation, deepfake content and other potential risks associated with AI technologies.

Under the act, companies and AI developers are required to take greater responsibility for addressing deepfake content and misinformation generated by AI systems, while the government is authorized to conduct investigations and impose fines in cases of violations.
