NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 4 – Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc, a global fresh produce industry, has issued a clarification to investors, partners, and stakeholders, distancing itself from Del Monte Foods Inc, a separate U.S.-based entity currently entangled in litigation and bankruptcy proceedings.
In a statement, Fresh Del Monte affirmed that it operates as a fully independent, publicly traded company with no financial or operational affiliation with Del Monte Foods.
“The two companies are entirely separate entities, with no shared ownership, governance, or operations,” the company said, noting that Del Monte Foods is privately held and owned by a Singapore-based parent organization.
The fresh produce firm revealed that it retains exclusive rights to use the Del Monte® brand for fresh and fresh-cut produce globally, as well as for prepared foods across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
“Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc. is not affiliated with certain other Del Monte companies around the world, including Del Monte Foods Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Del Monte Pacific Limited, Del Monte Canada, or Del Monte Asia Pte. Ltd.,” it added.
The move comes amid growing confusion in the marketplace due to both companies sharing rights to the iconic Del Monte® brand name through historic licensing agreements.
Despite the financial woes plaguing Del Monte Foods, Fresh Del Monte reassured its investors, emphasizing that its own financial stability and operational performance remain unaffected.
Headquartered in Coral Gables, Florida, Fresh Del Monte operates in more than 90 countries and is widely recognized for its vertical integration model, which has positioned it as a global leader in fresh produce and pineapple innovation.
The clarification follows news that Del Monte Foods, the 138-year-old U.S. company best known for its canned fruits and vegetables, has filed for bankruptcy and is seeking a buyer.
The company announced that it has initiated a sale process for all of its assets, a development that has sparked concern among consumers leading to confusion due to the shared use of the Del Monte® name.
