NAIROBI, Kenya, April 1 – The Affordable Housing Board (AHB) has pledged support for Jua Kali artisans to own homes under the Affordable Housing Program (AHP).
Speaking in Nairobi, AHB Chairman Jeremiah Simu announced plans for sensitization campaigns across Kenya to encourage Jua Kali sector members to apply for houses through their associations.
“Our goal is to ensure the informal sector benefits from homeownership, responding to their call for dignified housing,” Simu said.
Kenya National Federation of Jua Kali Associations CEO Richard Muteti welcomed the initiative, noting that artisans are both stakeholders and contributors to housing projects.
“Beyond building these homes, our members should also become homeowners. We will mobilize them to seize this opportunity,” he stated.
The government has assured eligibility for all income levels, with 24 housing projects nearing completion nationwide.
