Safaricom revamps 5G network to empower Kenyan SMEs

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 30Safaricom has unveiled its enhanced 5G for Business service, targeting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with faster, more reliable connectivity at affordable rates.

The upgraded service delivers speeds up to five times faster than before, enabling businesses to support essential operations such as real-time collaboration, seamless online transactions, and remote work.

With over 7.4 million SMEs in Kenya, the service aims to meet the growing digital needs of these enterprises and keep them competitive in an increasingly connected market.

Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa highlighted the benefits of the revamped service, saying, “The new 5G for Business will empower SMEs to enhance productivity, improve customer interactions, and scale operations efficiently, all while managing their costs.”

Under the new packages, businesses previously on 10 Mbps plans will now access speeds of up to 50 Mbps at the same price.

Similarly, 20 Mbps users can upgrade to 100 Mbps, while 50 Mbps plans will now offer speeds of up to 250 Mbps.

These upgrades aim to enhance the customer experience and provide SMEs with the connectivity needed to thrive in a digital-first economy.

To encourage adoption, Safaricom is offering a 25 percent discount on all 5G plans for businesses that sign up between November 29 and December 31, 2024.
