NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 23 – Agro-food processor Kakuzi will, at the end of this month, export its first batch of avocados to India, the world’s biggest market in terms of population.
In a statement, the Muranga-based firm said that the shipment comprises twenty tons of hass avocado variant and is set to arrive at the Nhava Sheva port in India.
According to the company’s managing director, Chris Flowers, the move will be fundamental in opening up new market opportunities in avocado and macadamia production as well as seeking other diversified markets for local farmers.
“We are excited that we are finally entering the Indian market, which has been one of our strategic target markets as we continue to enhance our production capacity and seek diversified markets,” he stated.
“The Indian Market is very discerning and remains quality conscious, and we shall seek to deliver the very best of sustainably produced Kenyan Avocados,” he added.
In the recent past, Kakuzi has had the privilege of exploring a diverse range of traditional markets globally, including Europe, China, and the Middle East.
Last year, the company exported its first cargo of Hass variety avocados to Shanghai, China.
“Kakuzi made history in 2022 by landing an inaugural shipment of fresh fruits in the Chinese markets,” they stated.
Similarly, in 2023, the company managed to export a total of 562 containers to Europe and China.
