NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 24 – President William Ruto’s affordable housing project will create 750,000 jobs for Kenyan youths, Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has said.
CS Kuria added that the programme goes beyond the construction of housing units to offering means of sustenance to thousands of Kenyans.
“Our affordable housing project is not just about houses. It’s more about jobs. 2023 saw 110,000 Kenyans working on affordable housing projects. In 2024, this will rise to 750,000 jobs, “he posted.
Last year, Ruto unveiled the housing initiative to allow Kenyans to own cheap homes while creating jobs.
Then, the Head of State said that the program is part of his administration’s goal of alleviating housing shortages while boosting economic growth.
The project is currently being undertaken in several parts of the country, with some nearing completion or being finished.
“As the President has said, the affordable housing programme, which is a key plank of the government’s economic transformational agenda, is not only about low-cost and decent housing needs, but also meant to create jobs for thousands of youth and stimulate the economy.”
