Dzombo Munga Named Kenya Maritime Authority Director General

MOMBASA, Kenya, Dec 15 — Engineer Martin Dzombo Munga has been appointed the new Director General of the Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) effective Friday, December 15.

Munga succeeds John Omingo, who served as the acting Director General for the past 18 months.

KMA Chairperson Hamisi Mwaguya said the Board settled on Munga because of extensive international expertise in the maritime and shipping sectors, particularly across Europe.

Munga, a distinguished naval architect and ocean engineer, brings a wealth of experience from his roles at prominent organizations such as Beluga Shipping (GMBH) in Bremen, Germany; Siemens AG; Airbus at Finkenwerder in Hamburg, Germany; and Kroger Werft GMBH and Co. KG in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Holder of a Master’s Degree in Naval Architect and Ocean Engineering from Bremen University of Applied Sciences, Munga is also a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, having completed his qualification at GFN Training in Hamburg, Germany.

Mwaguya expressed confidence in Munga’s diverse experience and visionary leadership, anticipating that it will play a crucial role in achieving KMA’s strategic goals.

“The board is confident that Mr. Munga’s diverse experience and visionary leadership will be instrumental in achieving KMA’s strategic goals,” said Mwaguya.

KMA is set to host a press briefing on Monday, December 18, to formally unveil Engineer Munga as the new Director General.
