Petrol price remains unchanged at Sh217.36 on petroleum levy subsidy

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 14 – A litre of super petrol will remain the same at Sh217.36 in Nairobi for the next one month until December 14, according to the latest monthly fuel review from the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).

On October 14, last month, EPRA increased the price of petrol by Sh5.72, which lapses today at midnight.

However, a litre of petrol could have risen to Sh229.37 if the government had compensated for the extra margin of Sh12.01 using the Petroleum Development Levy (PDL).

“In order to cushion consumers from the spike in pump prices as a consequence of the increased landed costs, the Government has opted to stabilize pump prices for the November December 2023 pricing cycle,” EPRA announced on its X platform.

“The National Treasury has identified resources within the current resource envelope to compensate Oil marketing Companies.”

Likewise, a litre of diesel and kerosene have also dropped to Sh203.47 and Sh203.06.

Currently, a litre of diesel retails at Sh205.47 and Sh204.46 for kerosene.

Were it not for the PDL, one litre of diesel would have increased to Sh223.29 and Sh206.70 for kerosene.

This is a reprieve for motorists and Kenyans who have been complaining of high fuel prices that have pushed the cost of doing business.
