NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 24 – The Public Service Commission (PSC) has asked all public servants to declare all of their assets starting next month.
In a statement, PSC said that the exercise, which will start on November 1 and end on December 31, 2023, will involve declarations of income, assets, and liabilities of state employees, spouses, and children under the age of 18.
It will apply to public officers in ministries, state departments, and state corporations that are under the auspices of the PSC.
Government officials are required to declare their assets under the Public Officer Ethics Act, 2023, and Administrative Procedures for the Declaration of Income, Assets, and Liabilities, 2016—Legal Notice No. 53.
According to the law, they should file their wealth declarations every two years.
“The Commission undertook a virtual training of the Heads of Human Resource Management from all public institutions under its jurisdiction, on Declaration of Income, Assets and Liabilities from 22 to 25th August, 2023,” PSC said today.
“The prescribed declaration form will be availed by the respective authorized officers to individual public officers.”
Each public officer, PSC adds, will take personal responsibility for the completeness and accuracy of the information submitted to the Commission.
“Public institutions are advised to commence and conclude disciplinary action against public officers who would have failed to comply from 2nd January, 2024 in accordance with human resource policies and procedures and inform the Commission on sanctions taken by 31 January, 2023,” it added.
“A circular detailing the declaration process has been issued to the Service and can also be accessed through the Commission’s website.”
