NAIROBI, Kenya, June 10 – The Coast Water Works Development Agency (CWWDA) has begun the process of picking a company that will develop the Mwache Water Project in Mombasa County.
In an advertisement placed in the local daily, CWWDA said the project seeks to improve access to clean and reliable water in the coastal region.
The project, which is backed by a loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB), aims to overhaul regional water distribution systems to meet the growing demand for safe water.
Lot 2 includes the construction of more than 27 kilometers of water transmission pipelines made from steel or ductile iron (DN 400 to DN 1200), installation of new concrete storage reservoirs in West Mainland and Changamwe, and deployment of a SCADA system for real-time system monitoring.
Lot 3 will involve laying a 21.8-kilometer DN 800 pipeline to the Nguu Tatu Storage Reservoir, rehabilitating existing reservoirs, and establishing a new chlorination facility and administrative building.
Construction for both contracts is expected to begin in July 2026 and conclude by July 2029.
The Mwache Water Project is one of several national efforts aimed at strengthening Kenya’s water infrastructure and enhancing service delivery to underserved areas.
