Kenya Pipeline Board confirms appointment of Joe Sang as new MD

NAIROBI, Kenya, April 25 – The Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) has appointed Joe Sang as the new Managing Director (MD) for a 4-year, renewable term.

KPC Board Chairperson Faith Boinett announced that Sang emerged as the best among the applicants.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors of Kenya Pipeline Company Ltd (KPC), I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Joe Sang as the Managing Director after emerging top in the just concluded recruitment process,” KPC Board Chairperson Faith Bett Boinett said in a statement.

“Mr. Sang’s contract will be for a fresh term of four years, renewable subject to performance,” she added.

In February this year, the Employment and Labour Relations Court suspended the appointment of Sang in an acting capacity, directing an insider to assume the position.

It came barely a month after Attorney General (AG) Justin Muturi okayed his selection in January.

For his part, the AG said that there was no law barring the appointment of an acting MD from outside KPC.

Sang took over from Samson Macharia Irungu, whose term ended in February.

KPC Board failed to renew Irungu’s contract after he exhausted his three-year term.

Prior, Sang worked with WHO-KEMRI as a project economist, a financial accountant with the National Oil Corporation of Kenya (NOCK), and a management accountant with Unga Limited.

He also served as head of finance for East African Breweries Limited (EABL), head of group performance and reporting for EABL Group, general manager of finance and strategy at KPC, and later MD in April 2016.

Sang holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Strategic Management, both from the University of Nairobi.

He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and member of the Institute of Public Certified Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).
