NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 13 – Safaricom Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Peter Ndegwa has dismissed claims that he will be leaving the company.
Ndegwa dismissed the claims as untrue.
The speculation comes at a time when he has completed his three-year tenure.
However, he said his term is not tied to a three-year contract like his predecessors.
Social media platforms have been abuzz with rumours that he will be leaving the company.
In 2020, Ndegwa took over as the telco’s CEO, replacing Michael Joseph, who had been serving in an acting capacity after Bob Collymore’s death.
He joined from Diageo PLC, where he was the Managing Director for Continental Europe.
At Diageo, he oversees business operations in 50 countries in Western and Eastern Europe, as well as Russia, the Middle East, and the North Africa region.
The claim comes after Safaricom appointed Adil Arshed Khawaja as its new chairman in January, barely a month after former boss John Ngumi resigned.
According to a statement from the telco, Ngumi’s resignation took effect on December 22.
Ngumi left the Board to focus on developing green energy generation across Africa with an emphasis on green hydrogen.
