Central Bank mourns Kibaki as a steward of Kenya’s economy

NAIROBI, Kenya, April 22 -The Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya ( CBK ) Patrick Njoroge has mourned Kenya’s third president Emilio Stanley Mwai Kibaki as a steward of the country’s economy

Njoroge, in a statement, said it was during President Kibaki’s administration that the independence of the Central Bank of Kenya was further anchored in law in 2004, and the Monetary Policy Advisory Committee ( later the Monetary Policy Committee ) was established.

The CBK’s independence was later enshrined in the Constitution of Kenya in 2010.

“He will also be remembered for his stewardship of the economy when he served as Finance Minister between 1969 and 1982, and especially during his Presidency between 2002 and 2013,” he said.

“We pray that President Kibaki’s family and the people of Kenya find comfort in their grief,” he added.
