NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 16 – NARC Kenya leader Martha Karua says the party is ready to return to the streets in protests if bipartisan talks between Kenya Kwanza and the Azimio la Umoja coalition fail to yield results.
She said that Kenyans are suffering from high taxes, poor services, and rampant corruption in the government.
Speaking at her party headquarters, Karua called for the removal of the additional 8 per cent tax on fuel to stabilizing costs.
“As Narc Kenya and as people of Kenya, we are saying, should the talks fail as they seem to, we shall not forego our rights, and we shall go back to the streets if necessary, we are going to exercise our civil, political and human rights to the fullest.” Karua stated.
Karua also recalled President William Ruto appointing people who had questionable credentials, who chapter 6 of the constitution would frown upon.
She further said that the Kenya Kwanza regime has disregarded the constitutional order and the laws of Kenya. She went on to reiterate her point by mentioning of how some public servants facing economic cases have their cases withdrawn and still appointed to public offices.
“We must be prepared to renew leadership in Kenya, because if we do not go back to value driven leadership, the suffering we’re experiencing can only go higher than it is,” Karua said.
She emphasized that sovereignty belongs to the people and that they are saying no to intimidation and are calling upon Kenyans to help maintain sanity in the country.
The Narc Kenya Party leader spoke about how the prosecution fails to call any evidence against senior public officers who were charged with economic crimes and specifically the Arror and Kimwarer dam case. She said this is sabotage of economic crimes and most cases are either withdrawn or are acquitted.
The Narc party is also demanding adherence to the rule of law and to due process and vows it will exercise their sovereignty to stop the decline of our beloved republic.
Karua also stated that Narc Kenya is a member of Azimio which also gave their three main issues which are the cost of living, electoral justice and the respect for political parties.
About the cost of living, she echoed that it is not just about the price of Unga, but also wants the free primary and secondary education to be run efficiently and not undermined.
“University funding to restored to where it was and the student loans must be given to all students and not selectively as the KK regime wants to introduce.” Karua said.
She also said that there should be universal access to healthcare services and functioning when people go to hospitals.
“We want the additional tax of 8% removed with immediate effect as it will help stabilize the cost of fuel which is pushing the cost of living upwards,” Karua stated.
