NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 2 – Trade and Investment Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has disclosed that he has received calls to postpone the launch of Meru’s County Aggregation and Industrial Parks due to the ongoing leadership wrangles.
Kuria revealed that he has received requests from his Agriculture Counterpart Mithika Linturi and influential leaders to postpone the launch owing to the political tension within the county but he has however declined.
“I have received requests from my colleague Mithika Linturi and the Meru Leadership to postpone due to the prevailing political situation in Meru. With profound respect I will NOT postpone,” he said.
According to President William Ruto’s administration, the aggregation and industrial parks are one of the most sustainable efforts by the national and county governments to shape Kenya’s economy by targeting specific inclusive economic activities.
Trade Cabinet Secretary emphasized that the launch will not be delayed by any forces especially when the aggregation and industrial parks launch is taunted at solving the unemployment among the youth.
CS Kuria insisted that the development launch that has so far been done in twelve counties will not be halted until the county leadership solves the ongoing wrangles between them.
“The joblessness and poverty facing our people cannot wait foe even one hour as we fix our BROKEN politics,” Kuria stated.
The MCAs have started another process of impeaching Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza. In the simmering political tussle, the MCAs; MPs and Senator Kathuri Murungi are now on one side.
Several MCAs have again threatened to impeach her for alleged nepotism, illegal appointments, and sacking of employees, among other accusations.
Mwangaza is yet facing an ouster bid for the second time in just 10 months after 61 out of the county’s 69 MCAs expressed support for the impeachment motion.
She has however, dared the MCAs to bring on the impeachment motion saying it will fail.
Her deputy Issac Mutuma also presented his frustrations with the governor stating that the county has lost leadership.
“When you see a Meru man getting overwhelmed with emotions. It has not been easy. It has been a one tough year for me,” stated Mutuma while appearing before the MCAs at Meru County Assembly.
