French IT firm IDEMIA seeks legal redress after MPs banned it for 10 years

MPs cited a violation of the Companies Act after the watchdog team found the French firm to have operated in the country illegally as it was not registered when it went into business with the government/FILE

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 8 – French Technology firm IDEMIA Securities Limited has moved to court after Members of the National Assembly voted to block it from doing business in the country for at least 10 years.

In approving the report of the Public Accounts Committee on the audited accounts of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, MPs cited a violation of the Companies Act after the watchdog team found the French firm to have operated in the country illegally as it was not registered when it went into business with the government.

But according to their application for a judicial review in the High Court, IDEMIA Senior Vice-President Antoine Grenier says the company was in full compliance with the requirements of all applicable Kenyan legal requirements set out in the open international tender issued by the IEBC for the supply of an integrated elections management system for voter registration, voter identification and results transmission.

The management of IDEMIA admitted to the House team that the firm did not have a local representative after the committee served the head office in France.
