‘Twist, lick and dunk,’ Oreo turns 100

First sold on March 6, 1912, the Oreo is celebrating its 100th birthday on Tuesday.

Coined as “America’s favourite cookie,” Oreo, has also established itself in Kenya as one of the tastiest sugar fixes.

According to Kraft Foods, worldwide sales for the cookie rose to more than USD $2 billion in 2011.

The “twist, lick and dunk” ritual is definitely part of many nostalgic childhood memories. From snacking on the cookie for a daily chocolate fix, to licking the white filling, to dunking the cookie in milk as a midnight snack – eating the famous cookie has become an art form and a symbol of the spirit of childhood.

Fans of the cookie can join in the year-long celebration by enjoying a limited-edition Birthday Cake Oreo flavour and also sharing Oreo moments on their special website.

So Kenyans, how do you like your Oreo?
