April 20, 2010 – There are just about three weeks left before voting is closed for the Museke Online Africa Music Awards (MOAMAs), where Kenya has a staggering 18 nominations – behind Nigeria (31) and South Africa (22).
The three remarkable Kenyans responsible for changing the recent entertainment scene with an online … popularly known as Makmende are aptly up for an online music award.
It will be Just A Band’s first ever award should they be announced as winners on June 1, of the “inaugural awards held to celebrate African music and musicians’ achievements online”.
They have been nominated in two categories; Best Alternative/Fusion/Rock song and Record of the Year for the song Usinibore.
Another relatively new name in the awards arena is Sauti Sol, who have been nominated for Best Group of the Year and Best Album, for Mwanzo.
The online awards, celebrate the “power of the internet in enabling African musicians to market their music outside their communities and countries,” according to a statement on the MOAMA website: http://moamas.com

Amani – Best Pop Song (Tonight), Best Female Artist, East Africa Song of the Year (Tonight)
Redsan – Best Dancehall Song (Yule Pale), East Africa Song of the Year (Yule Pale)
Ogopa DJs/Video – Best Beatmaker/Best Video Producer
Avril/Wahu – Best African Collaboration (with A-Y)
Wyre – Best Reggae Song, Uprising
“The MOAMAs will award the best of African music over the last year and put the winners in the spotlight as Africa prepares to host the globe at the World Cup in South Africa,” the statement on the Museke.com website adds.
It says the nominees were selected over a 3 month period by an academy of African music enthusiasts and fans. DR Congo has 15 nominees, Uganda (14), Tanzania (13) and Mozambique (10).
All voting is being done online on http://awards.museke.com until May 15.
