NAIROBI, Kenya, May 14 – Project Management Institute Kenya Chapter will host the Government and Public Sector Industry Project Management Conference 2026 on May 28 in Nairobi.
The conference, themed “Delivering Kenya’s Development Agenda Through Project Management” and carrying the tagline “From Policy to Impact,” will bring together public sector leaders, development partners and project management professionals to discuss improving execution of government projects.
The event will focus on strengthening the link between policy formulation and measurable development outcomes through structured project implementation.
According to PMI Kenya Chapter, Kenya continues to allocate between 30 and 35 percent of its national budget to development projects, but many projects still face delays, cost overruns and implementation challenges due to weak project management systems.
The conference aims to promote standardized project management practices, capacity building and collaboration between the public and private sectors.
Participants are expected from government ministries, state corporations, county governments, donor-funded programmes and private sector firms working with public institutions.
Maureen Ochang’ said the conference seeks to position project management as a strategic tool for improving public sector performance.
“Kenya has no shortage of strong policies and ambitious development plans. The challenge has consistently been in execution,” she said.
“This conference is about equipping public sector professionals with the tools, frameworks and networks needed to translate policy into tangible, measurable impact.”
The conference will feature panel discussions, case studies and technical presentations on project governance, risk management, digital transformation and performance measurement in public projects.
PMI estimates that organizations using standardized project management practices waste significantly less money compared to those without structured systems, highlighting the economic benefits of effective project execution.
