Fire breaks out at Yare Plaza in Eastleigh, Nairobi

Videos circulating online show smoke rising from the building as efforts to evacuate people are underway.

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 3 – A fire has broken out this evening at Yare Plaza, a commercial building in Eastleigh that hosts several apparel and retail shops.

The cause of the fire however remains unknown by the time of publication.

Authorities have yet to confirm whether people have been trapped inside the business complex.

Nonetheless, circulating footage on social media shows individuals being assisted out of the building, but there are no official reports of injuries or casualties.

Observers noted that fire engines or other first responders were not immediately visible at the scene in the early hours of the incident.

Yare Plaza is part of Eastleigh’s busy commercial area, home to numerous traders and small businesses.

The full extent of damage to the property or inventory is not yet clear, and updates from authorities are expected as the situation develops.
