Ecobank names former Family Bank CEO Mbithi new MD

Her appointment is subject to approval by the Central Bank of Kenya. She will succeed Josephine Anan-Ankomah, who has taken up a new role as Regional Executive for Central, Eastern and Southern Africa.

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 11 – Former Family Bank CEO Rebecca Mbithi has been appointed Managing Director of Ecobank Kenya, effective February 9, 2026.

Her appointment is subject to approval by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK).

She will succeed Josephine Anan-Ankomah, who has taken up a new role as Regional Executive for Central, Eastern and Southern Africa (CESA).

Mbithi holds an MBA in Strategic Management from United States International University–Africa and has over 20 years of senior leadership experience in financial services and other sectors. She previously led Family Bank, where she oversaw a multi-year turnaround and growth strategy.

She has also served as a board director at NCBA Kenya and as Vice Chairperson of the Kenya Bankers Association (KBA).

Ecobank Kenya Interim Chairman Yesse Oenga said the board is confident Mbithi has the experience and leadership skills to strengthen the bank’s performance and governance.

In the third quarter of 2025, Ecobank Kenya’s profit before tax rose to Sh734 million, up from Sh132.9 million in 2022, driven by improved cost control and operational efficiency.
