KITUI, Kenya, Oct 15 – More than 2,500 residents of Kitui County have gained access to clean water following the commissioning of a Sh3.6 million solar-powered borehole at Kitui Teachers Training College (KTTC).
The project, implemented by the Kenya Pipeline Foundation, involved the equipping and solarization of a borehole to supply water to both the college and neighbouring communities.
The commissioning was presided over by Petroleum Principal Secretary Mohamed Liban ahead of the Mashujaa Day celebrations scheduled to be held in the county. Also present were KTTC Chief Principal Gerald Mutegi and local leaders.
According to the Foundation, the borehole is expected to improve access to safe water and support small-scale farming activities in the area. Similar water projects have been implemented in Nakuru, Nairobi, Meru, and Kajiado counties.
KPC Foundation Manager Ms. Rachel Gathoni reaffirmed the Company’s commitment to sustainable development, noting that the borehole will not only improve access to clean water but also create opportunities for enhanced farming and income generation within the community.
“This project aligns with our mission to uplift communities by providing sustainable water solutions that promote better health, education, and economic growth,” said Ms. Gathoni.
The Kitui project is the 10th borehole developed under the Foundation’s community water initiatives.
