Jambojet adds JXA aircraft to expand capacity on busy routes

NAIROBI, Kenya, July 5 – Jambojet has reinducted one of its earlier leased aircraft, a Dash 8-400 previously registered as JXA, into its fleet as part of efforts to boost capacity on high-demand domestic routes.

The aircraft, which was first leased in 2016 from Abu Dhabi Aviation, returned to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) from Abu Dhabi before commencing service on the Nairobi–Eldoret route.

With the addition of JXA, Jambojet’s operational fleet now stands at nine De Havilland Dash 8-Q400 aircraft.

The airline says the move supports its strategy to increase frequency on key routes such as Mombasa and Kisumu, where passenger traffic has risen in recent months.

Jambojet CEO Karanja Ndegwa said the aircraft’s return reflects the airline’s focus on operational reliability and fleet planning.

He noted that JXA underwent standard technical preparations including regulatory inspections, flight tests, and re-registration procedures before the ferry flight to Kenya, which included technical stops in Oman and Ethiopia.

The airline, a subsidiary of Kenya Airways, holds over 50 percent of the domestic air travel market and has carried more than 8.6 million passengers since its inception.

It has also expanded regionally, operating cross-border routes such as Mombasa to Zanzibar.
