Rotary Club of Nanyuki Installs Becky Ngatia as New President, Unveils Community-Centric Agenda

NAIROBI, Kenya, June 28 – The Rotary Club of Nanyuki has officially installed Becky Ngatia as its new president, outlining a fresh agenda focused on philanthropy, education, environmental conservation, and youth engagement.

The transition ceremony, held at Nickolee Hotel in Laikipia County, was attended by Rotary officials, community leaders, and members of the business and civic community. District Governor Dr. Joe Kamau presided over the installation, handing over the chain of office to Ngatia from outgoing president Audrey Kathurima.

In her address, Ngatia outlined key priorities for her term, including the expansion of the club’s satellite library network and reforestation initiatives across the Mt. Kenya region.

“We currently have seven libraries and will soon open the eighth. We also plan to plant indigenous and fruit trees to support environmental regeneration,” she said.

The new president also announced plans to establish Interact Clubs in local schools, with students tasked to lead and manage tree-planting projects. The initiative aims to foster leadership and social responsibility among young people.

Guest speaker Dr. Farida Karoney, Chair of the National Lottery Board and a former Cabinet Secretary, emphasized the importance of mentorship and building resilient, inclusive leadership structures. She urged the club to develop systems that support personal growth, innovation, and collaboration.

“Leadership is about creating environments where people can thrive, fail safely, and grow. Build a pipeline of leaders,” Karoney advised. She also encouraged younger members to participate actively and not shy away from taking on leadership roles.

Outgoing President Kathurima lauded Karoney’s contribution to public service and praised her remarks as a valuable reference point for institutional leadership. She described the past year as one of growth, collaboration, and increased community engagement.

The Rotary Club of Nanyuki, part of Rotary International, continues to focus on service projects aligned with education, environmental sustainability, and health. With new leadership in place, the club is expected to build on its existing work while exploring new areas for impact across Laikipia County.
